Labradorite — Questions

What causes the iridescent flash?

Labradorescence is a light-interference phenomenon. Microscopic layers within the feldspar crystal refract light at different wavelengths, producing the signature blue-green-gold flash. The flash moves as you rotate the stone — this is how you identify authentic Labradorite. Flash intensity determines grade: "Spectrolite" is the finest Finnish variety with full-rainbow flash.

Is Labradorite the same as Moonstone?

Both are feldspars, but different species. Labradorite is plagioclase feldspar with labradorescent flash in cool colors (blue, green, gold). Moonstone is orthoclase feldspar with adularescent glow (milky blue-white sheen). "Rainbow Moonstone" is actually white Labradorite — a common industry mislabel.

Why Labradorite for transformation?

The traditional association comes from the Inuit legend that the Northern Lights were trapped inside Labradorite stones until a warrior freed them with his spear. The stone carries this "aurora released" quality — energies of visibility, movement, awakening. Practitioners use it during major life transitions as a somatic anchor.
